Geotechnical investigation for the construction of a new bridge with approaches parallel to existing 4-lane Mahatma Gandhi Setu at Patna in Bihar.
One of the challenging projects, was consultancy work for the construction of a new bridge with approaches parallel to existing 4-lane Mahatma Gandhi Setu at Patna in Bihar. Mahatma Gandhi Setu (also called Gandhi Setu or Ganga Setu) is a bridge over the river Ganges connecting Patna in the south to Hajipur in the north of Bihar. The existing bridge, now being the second longest river bridge of India (5,575 metres or 18,291 ft long), was inaugurated in May 1982 by the then Prime Minister, Mrs Indira Gandhi. This bridge is being used by lakhs of commuters from both sides. While work is being taken up through funding from JICA to improve the existing structure, the only solution to the demand of growing traffic is to build a parallel bridge. For the construction and development of the same, detailed geotechnical investigation was necessary and for this, CETEST Kolkata was sought for. The total consultancy fee is INR 5.8 Million.
