IFEMA is the main exhibition ground in Spain and one of the biggest in Europe. IFEMA has over 200,000 m² of indoor exhibition ground divided in twelve pavilions and all spaces and equipment needed to organize trade fairs and business meetings.
The main objective of the design and construction supervision project was to extend the exhibition ground.
- Design and supervision of construction of two new pavilions (12 and 14), which house three exhibition centers with a total floor area of 83,865.71 m². The size of the pavilions is 120×120 metres each. They are linked together through a connection area (30×60 metres) and linked to other existing pavilions by walkways.
- Design and supervision of construction of a car park on two levels, with capacity for 2,433 vehicles.
- Design and supervision of infrastructure works corresponding to the fairground Extension, including moving walkways and footbridges which are interconnected, over a total surface area of 124,000 m².
Among all E&M systems of the pavilions, it is worth highlighting the modern smoke control system for fires, which is adapted to the architectonical constraints. For its design, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technology was used to perform the previous computer modelling and subsequent simulation verification.
