Detailed design of Cartagena-Vera toll road. Section length: 113.7 km. Concession contract for the design, construction, maintenance and operation.
The road total length is 113.70 km, from the access to Highway A-7 in Vera (Almeria) to Cartagena (Murcia) at Los Beatos Junction, where the road reconnects to Highway A-7. It is a three-lane dual-carriageway, with a design speed of 120 km/h. The road comprises 13 accesses and 176 structures: 15 viaducts, 26 girder-type underpasses, 68 underpasses, 67 overpasses and a cut-and-cover tunnel at Sierra de Las Morenas (200 m long), as well as 3 more tunnels:
Aguilón Tunnel: 1,210 m long, with an excavation area of 128 m2 and a cross-sectional area of 100 m2.
La Loma de Bas Tunnel: 1,810 m long, with an excavation area of 128 m2 and a cross-sectional area of 100 m2.
Sierra de lo Alto Tunnel: 370 m long, with an excavation area of 100 m2 and a cross-sectional area of 128 m2.
Earthworks were significant to this project and consisted of: 16.7 million m3 of excavation, and 19.3 million m3 of embankment and selected ground, of which 3 million m3 derived from loans. The pavement execution used 1.3 million tons in coated macadam, 567,092 m3 in concrete flooring and 415,331 m3 in wet-mixed macadam. In order to determine drainage dimensions, specific rainfall conditions in the area were taken into account, resulting into 400 drainage works including frames and tubes totaling 20,000 m of length, in addition to 325,000 m of concrete side-ditch.
