Construction of a multipurpose sports hall, with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, fully equipped to host major international sporting events
Gran Canaria Arena was one of the venues of the Basketball World Cup tournament hosted by Spain in September 2014. The Authorities of the island of Gran Canaria undertook the construction of a new multipurpose sports hall project for the occasion, and awarded Euroestudios a contract for the provision of technical assistance during the construction process.
TPF Getinsa Euroestudios (formerly Euroestudios) stayed involved from the beginning of the construction in August 2011 right through its completion in March 2014, in time for homologation by the FIBA and thus for hosting the Basketball World Cup event.
The arena has a main court with a capacity of 10,000 spectators, two training courts on the lower level and a covered car park of 5 478 m² with 270 parking spaces. Moreover, it is equipped with all the facilities required for international sporting events, such as press rooms, VIP suites, an exhibition area, a fitness area and a café, to name but a few.
The main court features a removable and retractable seating system to create a space that can be adapted depending on the event: basketball, handball, concerts, boxing, etc. In addition, a LED scoreboard with 152 m2 of video screens has been installed.
