This project involved the construction of a new building, the “Polyclinic Building”, as part of the 12 de Octubre Hospital, to provide all the services expected of one of the most prestigious medical centers in Spain and worldwide.

This hospital is a model of excellence, with state-of-the-art equipment and 7,000 brilliant health professionals. Moreover, specialized training is provided to 500 medical students and 250 nursing students each year, and some 200 scientific research projects are conducted. It serves a population of around 500,000 people.

The new building consists of 6 storeys above grade for medical services (63,000 m2) and 1 storey below grade comprising a car park of 25,000 m2 and the technical equipment area. The total surface area is 91,000 m².

It features 252 consultation/examination rooms, 4 major surgery operating rooms plus 2 minor surgery operating rooms, medical day hospital and surgical day hospital, haematology, dialysis and lithotripsy units, diagnostic and therapeutic care units, rehabilitation unit, diagnostic imaging unit consisting of 2 magnetic resonance imaging systems, 2 CT scanners, 2 mammography machines, 4 general x-ray rooms and 4 ultrasound units, the research area, medical offices and laboratories, the restauration area, and maintenance and storage facilities.

The central utility plant building accommodates the HVAC system, pumping stations, a 4,000 kVA transformer unit and a 3,750 kVA electric generating set.
