Detailed design of the Transversal Rail Axis in Andalusia. Section: Los Alcores Tunnel. Province of Seville
Los Alcores Tunnel belongs to the Transversal Rail Axis in Andalusia. It is a two-tube tunnel (2,260 m long) with cross-conecction galleries every 500 m. It has an inside diameter of 8.43 m and an outside diameter of 9.07 m The tunnel lining is based on ring concrete segments, 0.32 m thick.
Tunnels maximum overburden is 71.5 m. They run under several geological units belonging to the Tertiary period (Miocene) made up of calcarenite, sandstone and silt, locally known as “Albero”, and marl from the Guadalquivir river. For the excavation, an EPB machine was used, with a 9.4 m diameter.
