Consulting and assistance services for the detailed design of Highway A-73, between Burgos and Aguilar de Campoo. Section: Montorio-Santa Cruz del Tozo. Province of Burgos

Detailed design of a highway section between Montorio and Santa Cruz del Tozo (17.1 km long). The River Úrbel determined the road alignment, as its water level defined the road gradient and paving.

Certain stretches are vulnerable to landslides; consequently, the alignment was designed in cuts. The current N-627 road was affected at different points and had to be relocated.

The alignment of the road had to be adjusted to avoid protected and inhabited areas and to minimize earthworks.

The detailed design covered eighteen structures, including two viaducts and an arched support structure. The viaducts have two 25 m arch spans each, with precast U-beams. Both are intended for the passing of animals and road and river crossings. The arched support structure is meant for the passing of N-627 road under Highway A-73. It was built with precast prestressed double T-beams, 1 m thick.

As for the environment, the road had to avoid passing through protected areas. The design of the route had to be carried out with a special care when crossing Úrbel River, as it traverses its water level.

The project includes three intersections: Montorio-Huérmeces, Montorio-La Nuez de Arriba and La Piedra-Santa Cruz del Tozo.
